YAP Cork participated in the Cork Ocean to City Race on the 8th of June 2013 and over the previous number of months young people and some parents have been training together in order to complete the trip. There was a carnival atmosphere in Cork that weekend and YAP staff across the country joined in to see this great event in action. We had four boats in this year’s race with a parent and child in two of the YAP boats rowing together.
This year we added three new boats to the YAP fleet of Curraghs especially for the day. The themes are Earth, Air, Fire and Water and each boat represents one of the elements. The same young people were involved in this project also and the pieces of art/Boats were displayed before the race near Blackrock Castle and in the city centre after the race.
To top it all we had huge successes on the day. Congratulations to Martin Ryan, Service Manager for the South Region, Advocates, young people and parents from Cork on this fantastic effort and ultimate success. Martin’s teams achieved 1st, 5th, 9th and 15th positions.
