YAP Ireland provides a 24 hour, rapid response support for young people referred by the Tusla Crisis Intervention Service to support their temporary placement and care plan when they find themselves out of home. This is a short-term intervention with an aim to reduce the immediate risk the young person is facing. Following a needs-assessment the young person and YAP advocate identify activities that support them to stay safe while a care plan is developed.
Some young people who accessed this service identified educational supports and seized the opportunity to pursue these, others used YAP supports to reduce their engagement in high risk behaviours and to support them to move home or to an appropriate placement. Some young people are referred to the Intensive Support Programme for ongoing support.
