Peer mentoring programme

The Peer Mentoring Programme is for young adults who have care experience and/or are currently involved in aftercare and provides mentoring by former care leavers for current care leavers. Tusla Aftercare teams identify potential Mentors ( young adults who have previous experiences of the care system and worked with the Aftercare team).  YAP Ireland provide mentoring training and match them with a young adult who is receiving Aftercare support (Mentee). YAP Ireland will support the Mentor in their Peer Mentoring role, supervising them across the 26 week programme. The Mentor will meet the Mentee weekly within their community to support them to achieve their goals.

Target Group: Mentees:

Care leavers (aged 18–21) who feel that they would benefit from the support provided by a mentor. The Programme will target vulnerable young people who are moving into independent living and have minimal support in their communities.

Mentors:

Young People who have left the care system and want to receive training to become mentors increasing their skill set for potential future employment opportunities
