About Youth Advocate Programme Ireland
The YAP Model is a unique way of providing intensive, needs-led, wraparound, focused support to children, young people and families who are struggling with a range of issues in their lives. The YAP model is evidence-based, achieving positive outcomes with young people and families within their communities, through the employment of community based advocates.
Yap Ireland works with young people and families whose lives have been impacted by disadvantage. We support them to reach their goals by making the improvements they consider necessary. We gather information about our clients, and this give us a picture of the overall demographic profile of the young people and families.
As grassroots community-based Advocates, we are often residents of the communities in which we work so we understand the cultural diversity that exists within the community. In addition, we have solid working knowledge of local support services and have developed networks that make this support readily available to the young people and families.
YAP Inc. traces its roots to a 1975 ruling that prohibited young people from being incarcerated with adult inmates at the State Correctional Institution in Camp Hill, PA. Today, YAP Inc. is one of the largest non-profit agencies providing exclusively non-residential, community-based programs.
