RECRUITMENT FAQs
What is the role of an Advocate?
The role of the Advocate is to support young people and families to build their resilience, achieve their goals and establish local links by working with community partners. These collaborative efforts strengthen both community and family.
I’m not qualified in working with young people or families. Can I apply?
Youth Advocates come from all walks of life and do not need to have a qualification. On the application form you should tell us about how your life experience, volunteering or work experience makes you suitable for the role and why you want to work for us.
How long will it be before I hear from YAP after I fill out the application?
All applicants whether successful or unsuccessful should expect to hear from YAP within two weeks of the closing date for application which you will find on the advert.
If I am successful at interview what will happen then?
You will be invited to attend the YAP Training Programme. This takes up to 3 days to complete and is usually broken down over a two week period. All candidates must complete the training to be considered for a match. This consists of 2 days of YAP Ireland’s Core Module training and a day of Child Safe Guarding and Awareness Training.
Where will the training take place?
Depending on your location you may need to travel to the nearest training centre be that in one of our 8 offices nationwide or a location that we have booked to facilitate the training. These points of training cover multiple locations. To see where is the nearest office location to you please go to our Contact Us page and click on the county most relevant to you.
Will I be paid for training, travel or accommodation?
YAP Ireland do not reimburse candidates for travel or accommodation to attend training or interviews. Training attendance hours will be paid for candidates when they are matched with a Client. As the recruitment and training process is quite extensive, this may be some months. There is no guarantee that we will find a suitable match for everyone, so no person should incur costs that they are not prepared to cover themselves.
What is indemnity?
All Employees of YAP Ireland are required to have a full clean driving license and valid Car Insurance and NCT. You will also be asked to provide us a letter from your insurance company that indemnifies YAP should you be involved in a car accident while working for YAP. Some insurance companies will charge for this letter and it is important to note that YAP Ireland does not reimbursed employees or applicants for this cost. As stated above no person should incur costs that they are not prepared to cover themselves.
Are Advocates paid in their employment with YAP Ireland?
Advocates are paid an hourly rate of €16.07.
Why is there a need to recruit Advocates on a regular basis?
Having a pool of Advocates with varying skills is important to the success of the YAP model. It also allows us to match the right person to the needs of the young person and family.
